How does Plasma Nitriding work?

The process begins with loading parts in a vacuum chamber. Nitrogen and hydrogen are ionized to form active species. Nitrogen ions bombard the surface, forming nitride compounds while controlling layer depth and hardness.

  • Vacuum chamber ensures controlled environment

  • Gas ionization generates reactive nitrogen species

  • Nitrogen diffusion produces FeN, then Fe₃N and Fe₄N

  • Process parameters control hardness, thickness, and reproducibility

In this infographic: the main steps of plasma nitriding and key concepts.
